Discordant with the Psalm of Water: The Ice Elves have grown discordant with their song, and this has lead to many becoming anxious, cruel, and cold. They lost their affinity over water, except in the form of ice. Though in Kul'Moras, many who would follow Azazazi have become severed from the psalm altogether. This has made them dark elves.
Synopsis:
Formally known as the Argon'Esrae. Once peaceful beings who danced under the glow of the auroras. Singing songs in harmony with the chilly winds that spurred snow flakes through the sky. Living in palaces of ice, and in white woodland meadows. Shy friends of the unfortunate, and those lost in the blizzards. What has become of them now? And why have they grown discordant with the goddess's song of creation? Why has cruelty and indifference become their new nature? And how far will they fall in their driven quest to leave all mortal life frozen in the discordant melody that now resonates in their heart? Well, the short answer is, not all of them have fallen from benevolence. There are still yet many who would spare the humans from a cold fate. And there are just as many who flee the madness that brews in their far northern homeland as refugees. But those who stay. The denizens of Kul'Moras. They have grown to hate the world. The hypocritical light elves who have broken their vows. The violent humans who have butchered their kin. And most of all, the goddess who turned her back on the world. There was one who came to their aid, when the world was left without a direction. And it wasn't Sol, but rather the goddess's own rival. Azazazi. The Referred to by the Kul'Morans as the speaker of harsh truths. And the one who he communes through. Lady Morgathoa, who has seen a vision of the new world. It is thanks to her prophecy, her charisma, and her composed passion that many of the Ice Elves had been swayed. Those who stood against her would be culled, and a new order would grip the ice elves of Kul'Moras into obedience. They grew discordant from the song which had restrained them and their purpose in life, and soon, they even suspect those shackles will break. For every verse of the song of creation broken, they draw closer to become what they truly are. For in Kul'Moras' version of Azanism, they were what made the Sidhe into Ice Elves. It was Esmeranda herself who bound them to mortal form, fearing their power. She limited them to the single elements, and left them to the world to be crippled and gutted by the creatures who greedily consumed the world around them. It’s no wonder why the Ash elves attempted to turn them to dust.
Suffice to say, the beautiful creatures who once lived in the hyperborean paradise are not what they once were. And this has become something all the elves and northern Estellonian kingdoms have begun to sweat over. Now, fiercely trained warriors descend into Vanard villages at night with gleaming blades ready to murder. Wizards and witches weave their hexes and and spells to deceive and do harm. And an army of Azazazi's evil threatens to spill into the lands of the Holy Eugencian Empire. Even the Ice Elves who haven't been tainted by the devil's evil are feeling the effects this has on their race. Even before Kul'Moris descended into this madness however, the ice elves had drifted from their psalm. Ever since the fall of Almora, a destruction caused by their own grieving hands over what the war they had plunged the elvin races into, the Ice Elves had grown discordant from the psalm of Ice. And this has long left them much like the high elves were after drifting the psalm of light. They had become a changed people. More anxious, scared, and bitter than they once were, and prone to acts of cruelty. But now, after Lady Morgathoa had affixed a new unified power in the north, the melody in their hearts is much more confused and panicked. They have grown disoriented. But those who have been swayed by the devil feel a very different song. Not a melody, but a steady rhythm which quiets the song that has plagued their race. It is cold, emotionless, and almost intoxicating. The wardrums of conquest. The new ice elf society is a violent and cruel one. Though not barbaric. For they are not without discipline and honor. But this has lead to many labeling them as dark elves, a term used for those elves who have been severed from the psalm entirely.
Ice Elves, either Mor'Esrae (Those who have become Dark Elves), or Argon'Esrae (Those still connected to the old psalm, albeit discordant) are generally pretty unlikely to become adventurers. At least in the traditional sense. It is a way of life that hasn't exactly taken root in the north. At least not as far north as the ice elves are from. But that doesn't mean there aren't those who travel the north seeking wealth, personal power, or furthering a cause. Many Argon'Esrae refugees who flee far enough south are likely to become intertwined with adventuring parties eventually, as they are a people who tend to favor the secluded parts of the world when in human lands. There are many who would travel to Valoron to research the Esmari Psalm of creation, and perhaps hunt down ancient Light Elvin treasures still guarded by the dungeon ruins. And who else gravitates toward such ruins? Adventurers. And as adventurers tend to be accepting of outsiders who have some useful skills to their trade, Argon'Esrae who have an aptitude for ice magic sorcery or arctic druid ability have a lot to offer adventuring parties. Mor'Esrae however, generally travel south to find ways to stockpile personal power, or uncover arcane secrets that can win them favor among Lady Morgathoa's favored. Mor'Esrae, much like Vanards ironically, as the two races try to find any way they can to separate themselves, are unlikely to distinguish between adventurer and mercenary work, and will likely turn towards both to earn some coin in order to help them get by in human lands. Mor'Esrae rarely come to stay longer than they have to. They generally avoid high elvin territories unless they have very good (And legal) reason to be there, and likewise find quite a bit of hostility among the Ash Elves who had returned to the surface. As for the Trow who live in the underhollow? There are many entrances to the underhollow in the Hyperboria, and both dark elf races have long been hostile towards one another. This was before they had a common god in Azazazi however. So who could say what the devil's plans for both races will be in the future. For now, this has not stopped them from attacking each other on sight.
