Under Construction:

Common Ethnic Traits

  • Suggested Naming Conventions: Sylvan names.

  • Hair Color: Any color found naturally on rabbits.

  • Eye Colors: Any, though blue and red appear the most common

  • Height Average: Most tend to stand 3-4 feet tall. Males and females alike.

  • Shapeshifters: Pooka have three static forms that they can change into at will. The pooka form, an anthropomorphic bunny. The humanoid form, a bunny eared humanoid (Resembling a child), and an animal form. (A normal rabbit.) Males are born into their pooka form. And females are born into a humanoid form. In most cases, pooka feel most comfortable in the form they were born into, and will choose that as their default form. But of course, that simply doesn't apply to all of them. It is merely a preference. And it is generally impolite in Lunar Pooka society to disrespect or question such life choices.

  • Lunar Transformation: Once per day, for about five minutes at a time, a pooka could change his or her size category to a medium sized creature. (Functioning like an Enlarge Person spell.) If a full moon is present however, they can do this at will, and indefinitely. The moon doesn't need to be shining on them for them to take advantage of lunar transformation. Meaning on stormy nights, or while indoors or underground, they can access this transformation, until the lunar cycle has shifted. This is actually their true form. The material plane's lunar energy simply isn't as strong as it is in the fairy realm, and as such, they were turned small upon stepping foot into the mortal world. Any weapons, armor, and outfits equipped change size with them.

  • Good Jumpers: Despite being small creatures, Lunar Pooka have an incredible leaping ability, and can usually out perform many humans or elves when springing forward or upward.

  • +2 Dex, +2 Cha, -2 Con

Synopsis:

When the Asmians returned to our world, they did not come alone. For many creatures native to the realms of the Sylvarian Fantasia traveled with them. And most by accident. Among them were three distinct races that allegedly share a common ancestry. The first of which being the mischievous "True Pooka" or "Sylvan Pooka" which appears as a half bunny, half human creature (Like that of a Satyr or a Centaur) that have become somewhat of a menace to the mortal folk. The second being the Terrestrial Pooka, a less magical race of barbaric and murderous hares that have driven many goblin races to near extinction, and... became somewhat of a greater menace than their whimsical cousins. Thankfully however, the third race did not end up here by accidental means, but rather traveled with the Asmians to the mortal realm. Far more refined and better spoken than their cousins, the Lunar Pooka came as councilors, diplomats, scholars, and in some cases warriors to help mitigate the rapid expansion of their earthen counterparts. From what we could learn of the first generation immigrants to our world, the Lunar Pooka hail from the moon in the Sylvan world. They apparently were taller in Sylvaria, due to the higher ambiance of pure lunar energy there, but have become short due to our moon's weak lunar energy. As such, the average lunar pooka stands between 3 to 4 feet tall. And most lunar pooka who were born here have grown used to standing at such a height. The lunar pooka migrated in small number, and were not here for very long, but already built a sustainable population to manage a presence here in the mortal realm, mostly concentrating in western Estellon. They are not quite in as great of numbers as elves, humans, or dwarves, but like their terrestrial counterparts, reproduction appears to be a part of their survival instinct. And thus their population tends to spike during periods of plague, war, or famine. They of course regulate themselves and their spread to be as unproblematic as possible to their native world hosts, but there is a widely held paranoia that there will only be a matter of time before the Lunar Pooka have the world in their pockets.

By nature, Lunar Pooka are somewhat of a contradiction. They are simultaneously observed to be very skittish, yet very brave. Very cowardly, yet very noble and loyal. Most speak very politely, being ever so careful not to offend, but will always deliver the words that one wishes to hear the least if it is the most honest truth. For in their home world, the Lunar Pooka are prey to a great number of predators. And the same could be said for those who have grown in the mortal realm. Pooka and Reynards for example have never had much of a history with one another until recently, but as soon as they came into contact with one another, the shapeshifting races grew to quickly treat one another as natural enemies, even if they veil this while in front of humans as passive aggression. Whether or not the fox folk actually eat the lunar pooka like there natural counterparts remains to be witnessed, but the fact that both races tend to undermine each other at every turn suggests that it is deeply ingrained into their psychologies. Lunar pooka have a strong instinct to flee or freeze up if startled. Yet this same instinct may also push them into danger with their breath held, weapons drawn, and shaky knees steadied. To understand many of the contradictions in their evolutionary psychology, one must understand. While it's counter intuitive as it is for humans, Lunar Pooka have come to understand that the key for self preservation sometimes lies in heroism. As creatures who live with fear closer to their hearts than humans, Lunar Pooka have also learned a thing or two about how to overcome it, and more importantly, when.

Lunar Pooka adventurers are a little more rare than most other races, but they are to be found. One would expect that their nature lends well to becoming rogues, and indeed, that is a common choice. And it is certainly an appealing choice. Why rush into battle when you could avoid being seen entirely? Although the ratio of rogues to sorcerers and bards is not as balanced as one might think. For Lunar Pooka tend to favor magic when they can. Pooka druids tend to favor a very different path than most druids of the mortal realm. For with their connection to the moon, they tend to be of the mooncaller archetype more than any other type.
